 “What a fantastic event”

The annual Swedish-American Entrepreneurial Days –this year the TelecomCity Catwalk 09 - are over for this time. The forum that enables Swedish and American companies to network and make business, this time focusing on mobile services and applications, was a success!

This special ‘industry deep-dive’ edition of the Entrepreneurial Days was held at the Marine Museum in Karlskrona and arranged in partnership with TelecomCity, one of Sweden’s strongest networks within IT and Telecom. With more than 250 participants from 10 countries giving the event a 4.2 rating (out of 5), the event was a success! Though the US delegation was smaller than usual due to cut-backs in travel budgets, more than 40 participants traveled to Karlskrona from across the US.

Many of the SACC Regional Chambers are located in areas in the US where the Telecom sector is important, which increases the value of arranging and attending an event like Catwalk.  The networking opportunities and the connections that were made during the two-day program are invaluable in developing future business relations between Swedish and American companies.

The partnership with TelecomCity started early in 2009 with information seminars in both Sweden and the US that continued throughout the event.

With 42 exhibitors, 130 matchmaking meetings and a numerous amount of spontaneous meetings between companies in the Telecom sector there were many new opportunities created.

According to Richard Lidén, Manager at TelecomCity; “Catwalk is Sweden’s best mobile event during the year”. The unique feature with the Catwalk event is its customer focus and to let business opportunities be in the center. Richard Lidén estimates that more than 1000 potential business opportunities have been made during these two days. Thanks to the partnership with SACC-USA, the US Telecom market became a hot discussion topic and many valuable meetings between Swedish and American companies in the telecom sector were created.

Talk Shows, seminars and discussions about subjects such as Global Markets, Customer Testimonials and the Mobile Echo-system gave the participants a complete and interesting picture of the industry. The speakers at the Talk Shows about Future Telecom came to the conclusion that “it will be important to develop the right business models for these new products and services” which the speakers could see will be innovated in a nearby future. TelecomCity Catwalk will be held again in September 2010.

Sweden Puts Its Bets on Green Tech

Sweden boasts some 3,500 clean tech companies that together book roughly $14 billion in revenues. Exports, which make up about a quarter of their overall sales, have grown 75% over the last four years. To further boost the industry, the government is earmarking $590 million for environmental projects over the next two years, including $180 million to commercialize green tech. None other than King Carl XVI Gustav has become the green industry’s biggest promoter and fan. The 62-year-old king, whose environmental activism goes back to his Boy Scout days, is also taking to the road to pitch Swedish green business. The king also sees Swedish exports and the environment as natural partners. "We’re a small country, so we’re dependent on exports. And we’ve always lived in a clean environment, close to nature." He admits change isn’t easy but says, "We have to think in the long term, not short term as we have before, but still make this happen quickly. I try to change my own thinking. We have to make this happen and not just discuss it.
