What’s the first place that comes to your mind when somebody says economic cluster? Probably Silicon Valley, and then you could as well add Oakland, San Jose and San Francisco, plus many smaller towns and cities in the region we call the Bay Area. Welcome to the home of SACC San Francisco/Silicon Valley!
Over the past 30 years of scientific-technological revolution, this gathering of adventurous, talented and spirited people has given birth to a multitude of hi-tech companies, technologies, social media, ideas, apps, gadgets and devices. This is also where you find angel investors, bankers and venture capitalists that help funnel money to make the ideas into products.
The Bay Area is always vibrant, happening and exciting, no matter what your profession or interest you have. So is our local SACC chamber, which is reflected in our particularly busy fall schedule.
On October 8, we are throwing an mingle Happy Hour at the trendy Restaurant Skool together with our friends in the Young Scandinavian Club, the Danish American Chamber of Commerce and the Norwegian Club.
On October 9, we will venture north from the city, on a tour to Sonoma County and the luscious scenery that is the California Wine Country.
However, for the real glitz and glamour you have to wait until October 22, when our annual Swedish Bay Area Achievement Awards dinner takes place. This will be the SACC SF/SV event of the year, and we will pull no stops to make the awards dinner a high-point this fall. It will be a black-tie event in celebration of the many Swedish achievers in the area: whether business achievers, big or small, individuals contributing culturally to the area, and people and organizations that work to strengthen the ties between the U.S. and Sweden. With the immense level of activity and energy generated by entrepreneurs, cultural champions and promoters residing in the Bay Area in general, this Gala is designed to recognize the individuals who contribute and focus their effort toward Sweden and an ongoing exchange with Sweden in particular.
On October 28, we will host a luncheon where SACC SF/SV member Kristina Peterson will talk about the solar energy market. She will speak as Vice-President of Business Development at Suntech America. The solar industry plays a key role on President Obama’s energy agenda, and will define the economic development and fortunes of California, and the entire U.S. economy
On November 8-10, the chamber will be kicking it up another notch as it takes part in SACC-USA’s Entrepreneurial Days in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is a great opportunity for striking up cross-Atlantic connections, and for business professionals from Sweden and the U.S. to get together and find new ways to do business.
On December 9, we will end the fall season on a traditional note, with the annual Christmas Luncheon. This is a time when we show members and non-members what Christmas looks like in Sweden, including gingerbread cookies, the Lucia Parade and all that goes with it.
Tis is what the 2010 fall looks like for SACC SF/SV; a lot of interesting events in an equally exciting region in a country that is at once different and similar to our own. Finally, be sure to check in regularly with the SACC SF/SV homepage for an updated calendar with all the events, monthly luncheons business mixers coming up this fall, including the big one: The Swedish Bay Area Achievement Awards.
Nils Welin is Chairman of SACC SF/SV and CEO of Cypress Security, the largest local security company in the Bay Area. Prior to joining the security industry in 2001, he was Vice-President of Marketing for Candescent Technologies, a flat panel display design company
